Addiction-Story

Addiction
Establishing shot: Filthy frank standing on a roof looking towards distance.
The film starts with Lewis and Scott sitting outside the Abandoned St Thomas hospital in London waiting for Andrew McGregor to arrive with a big black duffer bag. Once Andrew arrives at the abandoned hospital and sneakily climbs up the building, Lewis and Scott move closer while staying hidden. Then they follow Andrew who climbs in through a window. Filthy Frank checks out Andrew and inspects him for any weapons very cautiously and checks the bag before letting Andrew in to the building.
Lewis and Scott move cautiously but quickly towards the entrance, then once they reach the entrance they move quickly but silently into the building, then as soon as they enter the building they sneak down the dark stairs, but they hear voices at the end of the hall, they move through the hall slowly and cautiously towards the voices while constantly keeping a military professionalism about them.
The camera  then introduces filthy Frank presenting the drugs to Jonas Derus, Kristupas Andris and Vladmir Gaida with Andrew by his side, with both sides being alert and ready for anything to happen. Whilst the drug deal is happening, Lewis and Scott sneak to the entrance and prepare to enter while they eave drop on the conversation.
Once the conversation has lasted about 15 seconds, Lewis and Scott burst into the room and capture Vladmir Gaida and put him into a chokehold and a knife to his throat. then Darius Lanka jumps Lewis  and Andrew makes a run with the duffer bag so Andrew takes down Jonas and Kristupas and goes after Andrew, while Vladmir, Frank and Darius are fighting Lewis and it become brutal.
Andrew and Scott’s chase involves a lot of parkour through the hospital while Lewis fights off the Lithuanians and catches up after Andrew after the parkour chase finishes and the capture the villain

Opening analysis of scarface

Transparent imageTransparent imageTransparent imageTransparent imageTransparent imageScarface:- Scarface is a 1983 crime/action film directed by Brian de Palma and written by Oliver stone. It tells the main story of a Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino), and his rise to becoming a powerful drug lord who's eventual rise to power also inevitably becomes his major downfall, it is a film which received mixed reviews and is a film within the same category/genre as ours, it has many good shots and editing which we could input within our film such as the ending scene with the shootout with tony and how he decimates all his opposing enemies apart from getting killed at the end with a shotgun! other good shots include the scene in the nightclub when tony angrily threatens someone and grabs them in a choke, the movie involves a  lot of shooting as it is a gangster/crime family. however within our clip/film we are mostly going to be using a array of hand-hand-combat therefore the shooting choreography is unnecessary, however the close-up shots could be used in our movie showing the protagonist Lewis or  antagonist Filthy frank.

titles and logos

the title of Scarface has blood red font connoting danger and murder, this is evident as there is a lot of murder within the movie as it is a action/crime genre. the background colour is also black made purposely to mix in with the colour red, connoting darkness and mystery, this is true as the movie has mystery surrounding tony Montana's rise to power, and his even being there in Miami. the font size is bold it is made to stand out and warn people of the movie almost, because of the gore and violence it has. it might also represent tony Montana's fiery temper as he kills his best friend in the movie while on a cocaine-fuelled rage.

batman the dark knight's title is dark and dingy it also has the image of the bat on it as this is batman's chosen symbol to fight crime as. the dark symbolism connotes fighting and mystery, this is essentially true as batman's identity is shrouded in mystery his alter-ego Bruce Wayne is the polar opposite instead of being rich and eccentric he is violent and scary, the darkness also connotes batman's use of instilling fear into his enemies and taking advantage of that fear to utterly decimate his opponents, the font size is pretty small compared to Scarface, the movie also uses hand to hand combat a lot. as we are in our movie/film.

the undisputed 2 title/logo uses white colour font with red colour font showing the number 2 with letters, it also has the sentence 'last man standing' below it. It connotes violence and fighting, almost like gladiatorial combat this is true because the movie is about fighting and brutal combat, the sentence last man standing implies that there might be death within the movie for the fight to be the best, and what it takes to be the best fighter. the font size is also small compared to Scarface, almost deceptive.

Preliminary task analysis

Preliminary Task Analysis:

for our preliminary task we, recorded a video on the camera of different shots and match on action, showing a conversation between 2 people and also detailing a range of shots. also we had to follow the 180 degree rule which meant it was filmed in a 180 degree space. to reduce unawareness of the environment in which it is being filmed. at one point we did not know that main point of the task so we ended up filming random clips of different shots, however this was fixed afterwards.

The main task was to film a conversation between two people, there were several different angles and shots which were used during this filming, the shots were reverse shot, close-up shot and over-the-shoulder shot. this was shot between two people. The lighting also changes between each clip> we had been taught to follow the 180 line rule, and the camera should be filmed from the same angle as these shots.

another problem we had with filming was that we tried to get the words to be exactly the same, to be identical, so we had to rely on quick editing and shorten the length of each clip.

genre analysis

action movie conventions:

usually has a male protagonist who is muscular, big, strong and has a stereotypical interpretations of  masculinity and being tough and emotionless almost like his sole purpose is to just save the world and has no another affiliations with the outside world such as friends and or family, usually his aim is to save people.

sometimes humorous dialogue is used in a attempt to diffuse the situation, and the action hero sometimes is a 'normal guy' who soon discovers a hidden power or a talent which he/she must use to save the world from a typical disaster.

the target audience is usually 15 to 34yr olds who are predominantly male but a small percentage who do watch action films are female, also people who watch action films also tend to get hyperactive over certain scenes and studies actually show that people who watch action movies are more likely to be unfit or overweight due to constant snacking while watching action movies.

action movies also typically involve the death of loved ones, which usually stir the protagonist on to complete their mission or to fulfill their destiny as the hero.

usually involves car chases, and explosions to entice the audience further and add appeal of the action movie almost a cat and mouse chase.

initial ideas

Initial ideas

Firstly, we are hoping to go to a location in London, most likely St Thomas abandoned hospital. We would be doing an action/crime film, which would include some western European smugglers and a group of possibly hired assassins or ex military of some sort. We would have quite a few fight scenes and a villain as well as a few chase scenes which will hopefully be intense.

we hope to have a narration at the beginning to introduce the audience to the plot. Accompanying this is a chase scene, match and action as well as a wide range of music. During the fight scenes, we hope not to have to add music, but have punching sound effects. however, if there was to be any music, it would have to cover the majority of the audio. I got these ideas from some fight scenes in various Batman films, where there is no music, but only diegetic sounds such as punching and talking.

With fight scenes, there will be quite a few slow motion shots, which will be used to capture some movements which are too fast to film. Slow motion shots also enable the audience to feel encapsulated and would increase the intensity. As I and a few of the actors are black belts in various martial arts, our strong point would hopefully be the fight scenes, but the difficulty would be finding the right angles.  Also, a quick blur of the music when it goes into slow motion. However, because the area we are filming in is quite small, we wont be able to do many tracking shots, so we will have to limit our shots to the basics, close, medium, long, over the shoulder, and some others such as still shots. I don't think that P.O.V views would be best for the fight scenes, mainly because it would be too risky and difficult, but it is a possibility.

With chase scenes, there are many locations we could film, but would have to use certain angles to limit the view so that no member of public is in the shot or walks into the shot. There are some good ideas, as many of the actors and I do a sport called Parkour/Free-running, so we are hoping to do a roof jump and have some large jumps, and repeat it a couple of times for different shots. We are aware of the safety precautions but have done the jump many times, so there is a very low risk of injury.

The story itself will be quite complex, but we have quite a similar story to a usual drug bust, for example, a few protagonists, a gang and a villain, but the story is yet to be developed.

Codes and conventions of the action genre

Codes and conventions of action genre:

-generally, The characters in action have particularly large upper body musculature, They also usually have a background in the military or are a ex serviceman, a lot well-known examples of this is Rambo, and die hard, whom the protagonist is a ex-police officer or serving police officer.

the action movies also have a lot of other codes and conventions such as explosions and car chases, and also the hero or the protagonist turns out to have a special rivalry with the main antagonist which causes either the death of the antagonist or him going to jail and being brought to justice.

the action movies also feature the main villain at the start of the movie as being a bit feminine, and inferior to the main villain who appears later in the story, it appears to the target audience or people watching the movie that we could give him a good kick in. even though were not in the film it almost brings us and makes us a part of the movie in itself. The character/protagonist appears to at first be a 'normal guy' but then discovers a hidden power or talent which sets him apart from all the other characters. Humorous dialogue is often used as an attempt to diffuse the situation from being too awkward.

exotic locations and incredibly fast-paced car chases also keeps the audience on their seats and makes them want to find out more about the action-adventure movie.

Stereotypes

stereotype
action hero
costume
mise en scene
subverting character stereotype
audio relate
dialogue movements body language

In my group's opening two minutes we hope to represent the protagonist/protagonists as people from ex military or from a police department of some sort. We will be giving the protagonist a good representation, as to say that they are skilled and intellectual, Whilst some of the villains are the opposite and are ''brutes''. Because this film idea is Crime themed, most of the characters will be stereotypical, however there will be a few characters ( most likely villains ) who will subvert the stereotypes of what they would be generally given. The two British villains will be stereotypical, quite tall, chavvy and either in a vulnerable position or high up in the 'food chain'.

Because my group wants to include some roof jumps and martial arts fighting, it would be going with the stereotypes, because of course they are ex military and would be trained for fighting and chasing. The villains would subvert and go with the stereotypes, so it would be a mix. Some would be well trained but some may be just average people.

With mise en scene, we will be going with stereotypes of gangsters or some sort of person who has been in crime before. However, the clothes wont be posh at all, so there wont be any tuxedos or black suits, but just jeans and coats. The apparel which the protagonists will wear will probably be average un-suspicious clothing, civilian clothing rather than dressed up in a ghillie suit or something silly like that.

Also, the protagonists will most likely be white British/American, Where the stereotypes of them would be that they are the hero, they are powerful, and in charge or they have a leading role in the movie. Also a majority of the villains will be from Eastern Europe, from Lithuania. This goes with stereotypes because they are foreign.

The British villains would be quite fidgety and not as strong as the Lithuanians, and would probably be the ones causing trouble.

Batman The dark knight movie analysis (action)

Action Movie Opening Analysis

The opening scene of batman the dark knight shows several clowns pretending to be similar to the joker - they are all robbing the bank planning a bank heist, the joker is the main one in the back of the car he wears a mask with orange hair and is in all the main shots. he also is the one who creates the most havoc, and it is obvious he is the most prominent bank robber.

the opening scene/ trailer also has different sounds and music, such as diegetic and non- diegetic sounds, such as the dialogue in the movie this is diegetic sound because it is sound from within the movie.

my favorite movie

Man of steel is a 2013 superhero action film produced and directed by Zack Snyder, the main cast include Henry Cavill as the titular protagonist Dc icon superman, Amy Adams as supporting character and love interest Lois lane, Russel crowe as jor-el, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, mild mannered Clark Kent's mother. and Michael Shannon as the Antagonist General Zod, antje traue as faora, and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent(clarks father).  In my opinion the movie is fun to watch and has great action scenes the movie also has great cinematography, and graphics not seen before on previous superman movies, it is state of the art and also has a great background story, starting from how Clark is a baby on the planet krypton all the way to the final epic battle with zod which plenty of damage is done to the city!

Russell crowe as Jor-El clarks wise father before the role was cast two other actors were considered for the role as Clark's Father, Sean Penn and Clive Owen. Faora zod's Sub-commander is very dangerous and completely loyal to Zod her role is played by Antje traue, she has a military background and takes on superman along with zod.

the movie uses several different camera shots and angles cleverly throughout the movie, such as when the bus-crowning scene occurred a mid-shot was used to show and detail the terror on the children s faces, while the flight scenes had used effectively long-range shots to show superman's newly-developed powers. The movie's Budget was $225 million and made a box office total of $668,045,518. Overall it is a great movie to watch and the cast and story line was great.

Shot lists

Shot lists:

we are going to be using a wide variety of shots for our movie, for example in the fight scenes we are going to be using mid-shots, this is so that we can get in close and see the fighting action in detail, then possibly we will have extreme close-up shots showing the intense emotions in the characters, so that the atmosphere is intense and full of action to match with the action scenes and music.

another shot we could use is the two-shot a two-shot can be a form of a medium shot that has two actors standing or sitting next to each other other shots include the over-the-shoulder shot,
we could have two of our characters- the criminals standing together during a drug deal or something

we could also use high and low camera angle shots, for the high camera shots normally they are shot on a crane or a hill, or looking out of a window of a high-rise to get an angle looking down. another shot usable could be the god shot- this is a shot where the camera looks straight down on a scene symbolizing gods point of view looking down on his creation, this shows the audience watching our film the bigger picture, e.g this can be an interior shot or very effective exterior shot from the sky to show possibly a crucial point in our movie. such as a death of a major character for example.

Own film idea brainstorming

Film Idea Brainstorming:

Our film is going to be a action/crime film, it is going to be set in St. Thomas's abandoned hospital. it will feature different characters protagonists and antagonists. the plot involves eastern European criminals- a major gang and a drug deal we are considering calling the film/movie corruption something which links in with a crime/thriller genre of film.

we hope to include fight scenes as well, With the Combative scenes there will be quite a few slow motion shots, which will be used to capture some movements which are too fast to film. one example was Bruce lee who was too fast to be filmed on camera. Slow motion shots also enable the audience to feel encapsulated and would increase the intensity. As  a few of the actors are black belts in various martial arts. our strong point would hopefully be the fight scenes, but the difficulty would be finding the right angles.

Within the movie we hopefully will also include chase scenes. There are many locations we could film, but would have to use certain angles to limit the view so that no member of public is in the shot or walks into the shot. There are some good ideas, as many of the actors do a sport called Parkour/Free-running, so we are hoping to do a roof jump and have some large jumps, and repeat it a couple of times for different shots. the actors/people we are using are aware of the safety precautions but have done the jump many times, so there is a very low risk of injury.  However even so we will take the necessary precautions to ensure safety for everyone.
